Five Best Collector Editions of the Past Decade

Collector editions are a staple in the world of video games, and many of them have contained truly legendary items. Every hard-core fan of a franchise would love have physical memorabilia in addition to their digital game. Here are a few of recent history's most exceptional collector's editions.

Fallout 3 Survival Edition launched with all kinds of goodies. Included were a metal "Vault-Tec" lunch box, a vault boy bobble head, a hardcover art book, and a making-of video. The real prize was the exclusive Fallout 3 Pipboy replica, the iconic item from the Fallout series.

The Borderlands 2 Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition was notable due to resembling the red chests found all across the planet Pandora. True to its name, this box contained plenty of loot. It had a steel-book case, a "creatures of Pandora" card, a postcard set, a "field notes" book, and a cloth map of Pandora. To top it all off, each loot chest also came with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Collector's Edition was one of the priciest packages. Its $180 was worth it, however, because this edition included a fully functional, remote controlled, flying drone. This one certainly set the bar high for collector's editions.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition only had a few items, but they packed a lot of value. It had a standard hardcover art book and a making-of video, but the real prize was its statue. A hefty, twelve-inch tall, statue of the dragon Alduin looked just like it had come from the land of Skyrim itself. This certainly made an impressive addition to any Skyrim fan's desk or shelf.

Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition was another one that looked basic on the surface, but hardened fans would appreciate. It included a portable fight stick which was built just like the kinds from arcade cabinets. Dedicated gamers could appreciate the ability to play the game with these tried-and-true old school controls.

Because collector's editions are limited in nature, you cannot find any of these packages in stores anymore. If you want one now, then you are limited to second-hand sellers. Make sure to keep an eye out for the special editions of future games, so you do not miss out on your chance for exclusive gear.
